Florence
began making short Super-8 films in her youth which
led her to New York City in 1999 to pursue filmmaking full-time. She attended
School of Visual Arts (SVA) as an editing major and received a B.F.A. in Film
& Video.
During
her time at SVA she began several apprenticeships in editing including working
on acclaimed films such as HBO’s Laramie Project and The Woodsman. After
graduating, she continued to work on groundbreaking independent films such as
Jonathan Caouette’s Tarnation, Toots (National Board
of Review top five documentaries of 2007), Everything’s
Cool, and Julian Schnabel’s Lou Reed’s Berlin (Official
Selection 2007 Venice Film Festival.)
In
2007 Florence and her business partner, Andrea Blau,
formed Rewind Pictures, a documentary
production company focused on creating tribute films to preserve family history
and commemorate special events.
Their film honoring Ethan Hawke for The New Group was nominated for a BizBash Style Award for “Best Video for an Event” in 2009.
Some
of Florence’s most recent work combines her love of fashion and music. She has
edited short films for both Zac Posen and Phillip Lim
highlighting their innovative clothing design. Her work with musicians Clayton Sabine, Justin Allen, and
Prize Country has ranged from photography to music videos.
